No matter how much qualified you are, or even how much experience you have- You should always focus on your resume while applying for a job. Your resume is the most important part of your job application, as its best way to get the employer a solid idea on your qualification, experience and other capabilities. The employers or recruiters will try to understand if you could meet the job’s requirements through your resume. A badly written resume often gets you out of the door of your desired job, even you won’t find a chance to demonstrate yourself at the interview.
So, take enough time while writing your resume, and here some tips are given for you so that you can make your resume the best it could be!
Ideal Length of Your Resume:
Basically, a resume is a one-of-a kind marketing tool. Here, you have demonstrate that you have the right qualification, experience, skill and you can meet all the requirements expected by the organization.But all your efforts should be to the point, specific and authentic. A large resume full of unnecessary information will not provide any extra benefit, rather it will bore the recruiter. A two-page resume is enough for any entry level job seekers, though there is no specific length for resume. But if you have a lot of experience, project, and educational degree, then your resume may be a large one.
Order of the contents:
We suggest you to present the information on your resume following this order:
Personal Statement/Career objectives
List of key skills
List of technical/software skills
Training/ Attachments/ Internships
All these sections don’t necessarily come always, but this is a common overview. The order of the sections may change or new sections may be included depending on the nature of the job or organization.
You may not need to bring much change to the resume for individual jobs, but it’s better to customize it every time through changing your personal statement/ career objectives, your key skills and your personal attributes depending on the needs of the role. Try to do some research on the job position and the organization.
Make sure you have included your name, present address, email address and a contact number on your resume.
Personal Statement/ Career Objectives
Be careful while writing your personal statement or career objectives so that it can link your education and experience to the organization and the requirements of the job. This personal statement should start with an idea, then what experience you have achieved/ what you can bring to the organization and finally end with what your ultimate purpose is. These should be within 5-8 lines and written in first person.
Find out your key skills. Your resume should include about 5-10 skills and of course these should be based upon your education and experience. Try to mention the most relevant key skill first so that it can link between your background and desired job!
Mention your educational degrees chronologically. The most recent degree should come first. It’s better to mention all the necessary information (such as degree concentration, university/board, GPA/CGPA, year of passing etc.) related to your degree.
When providing your employment history, start from your most recent job and go backwards then. Try to provide a brief description of your role there with the position title, organization name, and the duration of your service there.
If you are a fresher, you may include any voluntary experience you have. Attachments or internships may be considered with very importance on this regard, and of course you should demonstrate your co-curricular activities very positively here.
Make a list of the names of software or technology you know how to use. Examples might include:
Basic Application Software/ Typesetting: (MS word, Excel, Power point)
Tools (e.g., cash registers, EFTPOS)
Don’t forget to mention your internship, training, attachment or any notable experience you have. If you have any academic achievements, you must include a few bullet points to mention these.
May be you have won debating competition, sports competition, or maybe you were a organizing member at some sort of organizations of your university. You should always mention these activities very positively. These are important to get an idea on your leadership ability, capability to work within a team, and so on.
Your resume must include at least two references, whom will recommend you very positively if contacted. The referees should be that person who knows you well and you have worked with him. Sometimes, it is instructed that the references should be non-relative. You have to put your referee’s name, designation/position title, organization and contact details.
Prescribed formats & Fonts:
Always follow the easy-to-read fonts and formats. This makes it easier for the employers to review your resume. A few fonts that we suggest are: Times New Roman, Arial, Calibri, Verdana etc. 10-12 point fonts are okay for main body and 12-14 points are for the headlines or titles.

What not to include!
Ideally, it is suggested not to include any personal information on your resume like your gender, birthday, or permanent address. You may not get any extra benefit from these personal information that could make you different from the other candidates.But, if your desired job position has any specific reservation on some personal criteria, then it would be different scenario.

Double-check everything that you have included in your resume. Make sure that you have provided all the correct information, and also check if there is any spelling mistake. You won’t get an interview call, if you make mistake on these points.
